Zamp Solar - American Owned | American Built | Locally Sourced
Around 2017 Zamp Solar started manufacturing panels here in the U.S. in a small mountain town of Bend, Oregon.
This simple move created a cascading effect for big changes.
Quality - is #1
By being able to control what goes into the panels at a manufacturing level Zamp was able to go outside of the status quo.
They were able to include better technology and manufacturing methods leading to high output solar panels and the best frame we've ever seen.
One of the first changes was to the glass. Most panels at the time use pitted glass. This glass looks rough and uneven. Pitted glass helps bounce the light or refracts it around hoping more of the light will hit the solar cell.
Zamp switched to using a glass coated with an Anti-reflective material, trapping light and helping the solar cell to absorb more light and produce more power.
Same light, better absorption, more power.
5 Bus Bar Connection
For a long time solar panels had 2 or 3 wire connections across each cell. By properly spacing the solar cells and increasing those connections to 5 Zamp was able to pack more power in a smaller space.
Every 150-watt solar panel jumped to 170-watts.
Stronger Solar Panel Frame
Most panels produced today are destined for the US housing market and use a C-channel frame.
Since houses don't travel around from place to place Zamp felt the common panel frame wasn't the best fit for mounting to RV's or other mobile equipment.
Zamp made the frame with a sealed channel creating immense strength and sturdiness.
Stiffer, very sturdy and robust frame prevent future damage when used on and RV.
Additionally, their frame has a channel that allow positioning the mounting feet anywhere on the frame.
Quality Wire Properly Sized
One of the biggest issues with off-grid solar systems is the lack of proper wire and wire connections. Quality as well as size and length are super important in low voltage systems.
Copper Wire - Zamp moved to copper stranded wire in all of their production. Copper wire has the least resistant and allows the MOST power transfer.
Strong, Tight Connections - They also moved to using solder on the solar panel connections and a strong crimp on others.
Sealant - The connections have a sealant that hinders water from entering or corroding the connections.
Large Selection of Solar
Zamp has been in the solar business for a long time. They have catered to the RV and Off-Grid solar markets for smaller, powerful systems.
They have different size panels for the tight spaces you'll find on RV roofs, or larger panels for wide open spaces.

Minimal Tools Needed
We've installed many systems over the years. Most systems sold as 'complete' aren't necessarily complete.
No fuses, lacking butt splices or simply not having any decent amount of wire is very common.
Zamp's solar kits come with everything you need for the install, besides the tools to install it.
Portable kits are basically plug in play with a Zamp Port or simply connect to the battery with clamps.
Roof Mounted kits require running some wire and connecting the terminal rings with some screws.

What Could be Better
Zamp is by far the best solar company we've worked with. While we like most of all their products we would like to see some MPPT charge controllers.
MPPT charge controllers are great for larger systems. Anything over 500-watts could possibly use a smart MPPT charge controller (depending on how you use your battery).
